Tragedy Strikes: Young Boy Fatally Hit by Car in Westmeath Estate

A young boy has died after being struck by a car in an estate in Co Westmeath on Monday evening. The incident took place in Farranshock Estate, Mullingar, shortly after 6.30pm.
Investigation and Aftermath
The boy was treated at the scene before being taken by ambulance to Mullingar Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem examination is due to take place. The scene has been preserved pending an examination by garda forensic collision investigators. Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone with camera footage of the incident to come forward.

The incident is one of a series of fatal and serious crashes that took place over the Easter weekend. A man in his 20s died after the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a collision with a car in Co Limerick. Two women and two children, a boy aged nine and a girl aged three, were taken to hospital with serious injuries after their car collided with another on the N59 in Co Sligo. A teenage father of one, named locally as Jason Monks, died when the scrambler he was riding collided with a car in Dublin. A man aged in his 30s is in a serious condition in hospital after the motorbike he was riding and a car crashed in Ballyhale, Co Kilkenny on Sunday afternoon.
