Charges Against Woman Accused of Offences Towards North Down MP

A woman has appeared in court charged with theft, harassment, and unauthorized access to computer material belonging to North Down MP Alex Easton.

Accusations and Court Proceedings

Clare Cannon, 47, of Kylestone Road in Bangor, appeared at Newtownards Magistrates Court accused of pursuing a course of conduct that amounted to harassment of Alex Easton. She is also accused of causing a computer to perform a function with intent to secure access to a program or data held on the device and of stealing documentation belonging to Mr. Easton. The police officer stated they believe they can connect Ms. Cannon to the charges. In court, Clare Cannon acknowledged her understanding of the charges. The prosecution aimed to apply for reporting restrictions on behalf of Mr. Easton, but District Judge Mark Hamill rejected this request, emphasizing open justice. Clare Cannon was granted bail of £400 and ordered not to contact any prosecuting witnesses. The case will be reconvened on 7 May.
