Demanding Revival: Crowds Rally for Casement Park's Rebirth

Thousands of gaelic games players and supporters have marched to the derelictCasement Park stadium in Belfast to demand its redevelopment.

Stormont Executive and UK Government Urged to Act
Following the noisy parade through West Belfast, a rally held adjacent to the crumbling ruins of the GAA ground heard calls for the Stormont Executive and UK government to end the lengthy delays in rebuilding the sporting venue.

Funding Gap Challenges Redevelopment
Plans for a 34,000-capacity redeveloped Casement Park remain in limbo due to a major funding gap of around £150 million. Stormont ministers committed £62.5 million to Casement in 2011, as part of a strategy to revamp it along with football’s Windsor Park and the rugby ground at Ravenhill. Challenges by local residents and a dispute over funding have held up the project despite planning approval being granted. The UK Government recently confirmed it would not bridge the funding gap to host Euro 2028 soccer games.

Calls for Action
Former Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams was among the participants, urging an end to the delays. Rally attendees demand that Gordon Lyons and Hilary Benn prioritize the rebuild. Calls for equality in sports funding and investment echo throughout the gathering, emphasizing the need for Casement Park's overdue revival.
