Hunt for Arsonists: PSNI Helicopter to Combat Mournes Wildfires

A PSNI helicopter is being deployed to find “potential suspects” and “spot any fires early” as arson sparked wildfires continued to ravage the Mournes.

Firefighters Battling Wildfires
The news emerged as firefighters worked around the clock to tackle blazes, at least some of which are believed to have been started by arsonists.

Firefighting Efforts
In its latest update, the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said the wildfire in the Bloody Bridge area of the Mournes “has now been dealt with”. More than 75 Firefighters were involved in tackling the fire front of 2 miles. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, they added.

Continued Operations
But a spokesman said: “Over 16 Firefighters are now at the scene of another wildfire close to Bloody Bridge in the Slieve Bearnagh area of the Mourne Mountains. Three Appliances are currently at the scene and we expect firefighting operations to continue into the evening.
