Security Alert at Belfast Castle Ends with Discovery of Pipe Bombs and Ammunition

A number of 'viable pipe bomb type devices' have been discovered 'along with a quantity of ammunition' close to Belfast Castle.

The PSNI confirmed the security alert at the Cavehill in the Antrim Road area has now ended. Detective Inspector Michael McDonnell mentioned, “At approximately 5.40pm on Tuesday 22nd April, police received a report that a suspicious object had been located in the area close to Belfast Castle. Officers and Ammunition Technical Officers attended, resulting in the discovery of viable pipe bomb type devices and a quantity of ammunition. The items have been safely removed for further forensic examination. Any information related to this incident should be reported to detectives on 101, quoting reference number 1200 22/04/25.
