Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council Unveils Comprehensive Anti-Poverty Plan
Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has officially unveiled a new Anti-Poverty Strategy, a significant initiative designed to combat the escalating problem of poverty throughout the Borough. With an increasing number of residents facing financial difficulties due to the enduring impact of the global pandemic and the ongoing cost of living crisis, the Council has prioritized addressing poverty in a strategic and coordinated manner.
Championing Collaboration for Lasting Impact
The issue was identified as a major concern during the 2023 review of the Borough's 'Love Living Here' Community Plan. In response, the Council passed a motion in January 2024 to form a cross-party Anti-Poverty Steering Group. This group has since collaborated with statutory, community, and voluntary partners to develop a solid framework aimed at creating long-term, sustainable solutions for those most vulnerable.
Empowering the Community for Change
The newly launched Anti-Poverty Strategy offers a clear, guiding structure for how the Borough will tackle poverty by providing agency for residents, providing economic empowerment, maximizing stakeholder partnership opportunities, enhancing social inclusion, and improving access to essential services for residents.
