From Co Fermanagh to Dublin: Priest Walks Barefoot for Community Hub

A priest from Co Fermanagh is taking on a mammoth barefoot walk to Dublin to raise funds for a new community hub.

Raising Funds for a Community Hub
The Revd Stephen McWhirter, Rector of Rossorry Parish Church in Enniskillen, is walking from his landmark church to St Patrick's Cathedral, covering a distance of around 100 miles. He will begin his journey after morning service on Sunday, March 30, with the aim to reach Dublin on Palm Sunday, April 13, walking daily distances of up to 11 miles.

Sleeping in Churches and Reliance on Strangers
During his trek, Revd Stephen will rely on the generosity of strangers and will be sleeping in churches along the route. Despite initially planning to walk alone, he now requires support vehicles for traffic warnings, paperwork with authorities, and risk assessments due to walking barefoot.

Educating Children on Pilgrimages
Along the way, Revd Stephen will be visiting national schools to share insights about pilgrimages and historical sites. The route includes stops at places of historic interest like St Michan's Church, dating back to 1686.

A Personal Journey with Historic Significance
Using his father's staff as support, Revd Stephen's pilgrimage holds personal significance, with the destination being St Patrick's Cathedral, a site of great religious importance for over 800 years.
