Exclusive: Undercover Operation Nabs Man in Supermarket Carpark

A 61-year old man who was snared by an online child protection group trying to meet what he believed was a 12-year old girl in a car park in Belfast was jailed for six months today (Monday). Incarceration and Charges

Peter Doyle, a resident of Lir Fold on the Clay Road in Keady, Co Armagh, was sentenced at Belfast Crown Court on multiple charges dating back to 2021. He admitted attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming and attempted sexual communication with a child. Doyle also confessed to making indecent images of a child. The Arrest

The arrest took place on September 29, 2021, in the car park of the Asda store on Belfast’s Shore Road. Members of the 'End Game Team' online child protection group intervened after conversations between Doyle and 'Abby', who was actually an undercover member of the group, revealed sexually explicit content. The group provided evidence to the PSNI, leading to Doyle's arrest. Legal Proceedings and Sentencing

During a police interview, Doyle admitted to intending to meet 'Abby' in person and sending explicit messages and images. Despite claiming he doubted the girl's age, 23 indecent images of children were found on his mobile phone. Doyle was sentenced to 12 months in prison, given a five-year Sexual Offences Prevention Order, and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for a decade. The judge highlighted the seriousness of his actions and handed down a strict sentence. For more updates, check our homepage and subscribe to our newsletter.
