Tributes Pour In After Pope Francis' Passing

Tributes have been pouring in following the announcement that Pope Francis has died this morning, aged 88.

First Minister Michelle O'Neill's Homage
In a statement, His Eminence, Cardinal Farrell announced that the Pontiff had passed away at 7:35 am local time on Easter Monday. Among those paying their respects were First Minister Michelle O'Neill, who described the Pope as 'a man of great faith and a strong, determined leader'. Meanwhile, DUP leader Gavin Robinson said that despite their theological differences, he extended 'respectful sympathies to all those grieving his passing'.

Global Tributes
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has paid tribute to Pope Francis, saying his death is a reminder of “his call to care for one another across different faiths, backgrounds, nations and beliefs”. The King and Queen have also expressed their condolences following the death of Pope Francis.

SDLP Leader Claire Hanna MP said: 'Pope Francis’s passing will be mourned not only by those of the Catholic faith, but by people across the world.
