Honoring Heroes: VE Day 80th Anniversary Celebrations in Northern Ireland

Belfast Events

Belfast will mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a series of special events at City Hall. Tim McGarry and Dr. David Hume will share wartime experiences, accompanied by music and readings from the NI War Memorial’s Oral History Archive. The celebration will culminate in the display of a replica Supermarine Spitfire used during WWII. Guests can enjoy a brass band performance and historical speeches, followed by free guided walking tours of Belfast city centre. In addition, a tea dance hosted by Hugo Duncan will be broadcast live on BBC Radio Ulster. Tickets for these events are available at the Visit Belfast website or by calling 028 9024 6609.

Lisburn Events

Lisburn will host a day of celebratory events honoring those who sacrificed for peace and freedom 80 years ago. The schedule includes a historical talk on raising a Belgian Army in Ulster and an exhibition commemorating Victory in Europe Day from 1939 to 1945 at the Irish Linen Centre and Lisburn Museum. These events promise to bring the community together in remembrance and gratitude.
